ساعت کار مدارس در کانادا

سال تحصیلی در کانادا معمولا از هفته ی اول سپتامبر شروع شده و تا پایان ژوئن (۱۰ ماه) ادامه دارد و به دوره یا سه ماهه هایی (ترم/ نیمسال) تقسیم می شود. مدارس کمی وجود دارد که در همه ی سال به آموزش خود ادامه دهند و سال تحصیلی برخی از آنها از اواسط آگوست تا انتهای می ادامه دارد. تاریخ تعطیلات مدارس از پیش توسط مدرسه اعلام می شود و این کار باعث می شود که والدین زمان بسیار زیادی برای برنامه ریزی تعطیلات خانوادگی در زمان تعطیلی رسمی مدارس داشته باشند. بهتر است در زمان امتحانات یا تخصیص تکالیف دروس مهم کودک را از مدرسه خارج نکنیم.

مدارس ابتدایی کانادا معمولا از ساعت ۸:۳۰ دقیقه ی صبح شروع شده و تا ۳ یا ۳:۳۰ دقیقه بعد از ظهر با یک ساعت برای نهار ادامه می یابد. معمولا دو زنگ تفریح (تنفس) ۱۵ دقیقه ای وجود دارد که به دانش آموزان اجازه می دهد تا از فشار بین کلاس ها دور شوند (و باعث می شود که معلم نیز استراحت کند). در دبیرستان ها, ساعت ها معمولا از ۸:۳۰ صبح تا ۱۴:۳۰ است. فعالیت های فوق برنامه و ورزش ها بعد از ساعات مدرسه برنامه ریزی شده اند. کلاس‌های مدارس دولتی از دوشنبه تا جمعه برگزار می شوند و هیچ درسی در روز شنبه یا یکشنبه ارائه نمی شود. کانادا همچنین دارای مدارسی به صورت نیمسالی است که به جای اینکه ۸ مبحث استاندارد در طول سال تدریس شود, چهار مبحث همراه با روزانه یک درس طولانی در هر مبحث (معمولا ۷۰ دقیقه) تدریس می شود. گفته می شود که این سیستم درک بهتری از هر درس ارائه می دهد و برای شاگردانی که سازگاری با هشت مبحث در هر هفته برایشان دشوار است، مناسب تر می باشد.
