U4GM What to expect in PoE2 Patch 0.5 buffs and nerfs

I've been staring at every single teaser GGG has put out lately, and I'm not even joking when I say I'm more hyped for Path of Exile 2's 0.5 patch than I've been for any update in years. The "Return of the Ancients" drops on May 29th, and with the livestream happening tomorrow, the speculation is basically at a breaking point. Let's be honest, patch 0.4 left a lot of us feeling pretty burnt out. The Atlas loop got stale fast, melee felt like a total death wish, and the RNG in crafting was enough to make anyone want to quit. I've been looking into getting some cheap Path of Exile 2 Currency just to be ready for the new meta because I reckon 0.5 is the turning point we've been waiting for. It feels like the devs are finally listening to the complaints about the grind.

Melee finally gets some loveThe biggest buff I'm betting on is a total melee resurrection. It's no secret that melee has been the underdog since launch. With the Duelist and Shadow finally arriving alongside Swords as a dedicated weapon type, the meta is about to shift. I've seen some leaks about an unarmed lightning aura that procs on hits, which sounds like a massive win for Monk builds. But it's the broader balance between Life and Energy Shield that really matters. If they give us the tools to stop feeling like glass cannons every time we get close to a boss, melee might actually compete at the top of the ladder again. It's about time we could actually stand toe-to-toe with enemies without getting deleted instantly.

Fixing the endgame loopThen there's the endgame. The current Tower system just doesn't have that "one more map" pull. I'm expecting a massive overhaul to progression—think quest-driven Sanctuaries and better reward scaling that doesn't just rely on blind luck. If GGG introduces an "Infinite Atlas" style system, it'll solve the repetition problem overnight. Plus, new gems like the Demon Magus, which allows for hands-free autocasting while you focus on dodging, are going to open up build diversity in ways we haven't seen yet. It's these kinds of changes that keep the game alive for the long haul.

The inevitable nerf hammer and market shiftsLet's be real, it's not all gonna be buffs. The nerfs are definitely coming. I'd put money on Temple and Expedition getting hit because they're just too easy to scale right now. GGG usually hates it when one mechanic becomes the only way to play. We'll likely see a rework of item rarity too. Right now, it's either you find everything or nothing, so a more consistent system would be a relief. If you're short on time and want to skip the boring parts of the grind, using U4GM to buy some extra items or currency is a solid way to hit the ground running. I'm just dying to see what the community cooks up after the stream tomorrow. Stay sane out there, Exiles.
